Sturgeon Baptist Church 125th Anniversary

Historical Dates:
1885 - (Nov. 29) - Sturgeon Baptist Church was organized. (21 Charter Members)
1885 - First paster called - Rev. T. W. Barrett
1891 - Revival held (76 additions to the church)
1899 - Church voted to build a brick church
1900 - Brick church dedicated
1950 - Claude & Helen Phillippe presented the church with speakers on top of church
1951 - Full basement was completed
1956 - Mid-Week prayer service begins
1957 - Began building the first parsonage at 205 E. Patton on site donated by Don Carter
1967 - Current basement built on property purchased from Henry Stephens
1972 - Organ purchased in memory of Mansil & Hattie Mae Sims
1972 - Piano purchased and recorded chimes given in memory of Peggy Dawson
1973 - WMU sponsored its first Thanksgiving Dinner for senior citizens of the area
1974 - Padded Pews
1978 - Youth Revival / 25 Professions of Faith
1980's - Purchased lots to north and south
1983 - Ordination of Todd Forman (first ordained from church to ministry)
1986 - Nate Kohl ordained to ministry
1990 - Lay Renewal / Small Groups
1992 - Purchased present parsonage at 106 W. McDowell Street
1993 - Multipurpose building dedicated
1994 - Media Library
1995 - Purchased lot southwest of church
1995 - Began building on new sanctuary and remodeling fellowship hall.
1997 - 18 Baptisms on Easter Sunday in new sanctuary
1997 - (Aug. 3) - Permanent move to new sanctuary
1997 - Present church sanctuary dedicated
1999 - Eugene O'Neill ordained to ministry
2002 - Started tearing down the old brick church
2002 - Youth began attending Centrifuge Camp
2003 - Projector system and updated sound and video equipment
2003 - Purchased 15 passenger church van
2004 - Dedication service for addition (nursery, foyer, classroom)
2004 - Discipleship Ministry
2005 - Peacemaker Ministry
2009 - Purchased property east of church
2010 - Purchased second property east of church
2010 - Purchased new Johannus Organ
2010 - (Nov. 7) - 125th Anniversary Celebration
